#207: Preparations

I mentioned in my launch post about CopyMo (the business I started on, um, Monday) that I’d put off doing it for 2 years.  This is partially true, but there’s something deeper that I thought about during a late-night shower recently.  Yeah, I kinda take a lot of those these days.

I got the idea in summer 2009, then worked on the idea and site off and on for about 2 years.  To be sure, there was frustration, procrastination, and even a little carbonation.  By the time I pulled the whole site down and moved it to a new CMS (Joomla to WordPress), I had most of the content written.

So, in fact, over those 2 years, I actually did a lot of work.  I refined text and graphics over and over again, to the point where, when the final version came together, I had a lot of the content done.

Sometimes we think that we’re not going anywhere during a seemingly quiet period, but in fact we are preparing for something down the line.  And all that prep pays off big-time one day.

I became a Christian after 2.5 years of being witnessed to by friends.  I wonder if they ever thought they were wasting their time.

I also wonder if John the Baptist ever wondered if he was eating locust and honey hotdish for nothing.

In the end, big things come to those who wait.

What’s something that had a lot of silent preparation in your life?

  1. I certainly feel that the silent waiting periods in life are some of the most significant… as far as maturing spiritually. I feel sometimes that I’m actually listening more (very good thing).

  2. Right now I am preparing to preach revival services and there is some silent prep going on. Services are nearly 3 months away but the silent prep is happening.

I honestly think there is also a lot of silent prep for a book happening too.

    Thanks MO!

  3. I used to feel that God always had me waiting, but everything I’ve had to wait for has been awesome…the most recent thing I can remember was waiting for Elias! Preparations were being made.

  4. Moe

I actually felt like that about blogging. I put it off for so long, but then I decided to “launch”. I’m glad I did. This has allowed me to be blessed by people like you Mo. The blogging community is awesome.

As far as ministry is concerned, I have a little something in my heart, and I’m still fighting about “launching”. Pray for me Mo.

  6. Preparing something silently? My book project and future in ministry.

  7. Great thoughts bro. I can 100% relate to this. I’m definitely preparing for something new right now. Too early to share though. :)

  8. I’m dreaming big, but it’s going to take more preparation than I’ve done so far. I want to go to seminary. That’s a 180 from where I was two years ago, but with much preparation (and much more money), I think it’ll happen.

  9. Honestly, all this waiting has reached the point it’s discouraging rather than encouraging. I’m getting to the point I wonder if I’m preparing for nothing.

  10. Becoming a father. My character was built silently for the day that I would be called “Dad.” It is still being built.
